Matilda Jr. is a one-act junior adaptation of the full-length musical Matilda the Musical, based on Roald Dahl’s beloved book. It tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, a precocious and intelligent young girl with a love for reading and a vivid imagination. Unfortunately, she’s neglected and mistreated by her shallow, self-absorbed parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, and bullied by her tyrannical school headmistress, Miss Trunchbull. Despite her bleak circumstances, Matilda finds strength in books and in her kind-hearted schoolteacher, Miss Honey, who recognizes Matilda’s brilliance and cares for her deeply. As Matilda stands up to injustice, she discovers she has a hidden power — telekinesis — which she uses to stand up to Trunchbull and fight for what’s right. With themes of bravery, self-empowerment, and the importance of kindness, Matilda Jr. blends humor, heart, and high-energy songs to celebrate the resilience and creativity of a remarkable young girl who dares to change her own story.
